One way I have grown this year is by beginning to understand what it really means to take full ownership of Splash Colour Imaging. In fact, taking ownership of a business is a journey that continues to teach me new lessons.
That still feels a little daunting.
Owning a business is one thing on paper. Carrying it fully — the people, the standards, the clients, the future, the risks, and the possibilities — is something much deeper. This year, I have felt that responsibility in a new way, and I see clearly how taking ownership of a business means being present for every aspect, not just the achievements.
Taking the Reins
Splash Colour Imaging has always been more than a business to me. It is a place where colour, detail, photography, craft, and service matter. Whether we are working on photographic printing, fine art printing, or helping a client bring an image to life, the work carries meaning.
As I take the reins more fully, I am learning that leadership is not just about being involved in every detail. It is about stewardship. After all, taking ownership of a business also means being a steward to something bigger than yourself.
It means caring for what has been built, while also preparing the business for the future.
From Control to Stewardship
One of the biggest lessons for me this year has been learning that taking ownership does not mean holding everything tighter.
In fact, it often means learning to delegate better, build stronger systems, trust others more, and make decisions with a longer view.
That is not always easy. When you care deeply about quality, it can be tempting to stay close to everything. But I am learning that good leadership is not about doing everything myself. It is about helping others grow, protecting the standards, and creating a business that can last. Part of taking ownership of a business is building a foundation that others can grow on too.
Growing Into the Responsibility
Taking full ownership of Splash Colour Imaging feels like both a weight and a privilege.
There are moments when it feels bigger than me. But maybe that is part of the growth. We do not always feel ready before responsibility arrives. Sometimes we grow because we are asked to step forward.
This year, I have grown by beginning to accept that ownership is not just something you have.
It is something you grow into.
And as I step further into this next chapter of Splash Colour Imaging, I want to lead with care, courage, faith, and a deep respect for the craft, the clients, and the people who make the business what it is.
