Three Essential Objects for a Meaningful Life

Finding Meaning in My Three Everyday Essentials

Life can sometimes feel overwhelming with all its noise and clutter. So, I recently took a moment to reflect on what really matters to me. When I stripped away the excess, I was left with three everyday essentials that shape who I am: identity, connection, and freedom. These three essential objects truly represent what is most important to me.

1. The Bible: My Foundation of Identity

First is my Bible. It’s so much more than a book—it’s like a mirror, helping me see who I really am and reminding me of God’s heart for me. Just this morning, my prayer app sent a gentle reminder of His love: “I have loved you with an everlasting love… you are precious in my eyes.” How do you move past words like that? They remind me that I was known before I was even born. My Bible keeps me grounded, offering hope—even when life feels unsteady. In fact, the Bible is one of my three essential objects for grounding my identity.

2. The Smartphone: A Hub for Connection

Next is my phone. Sure, we often hear about the downsides of technology, but for me, my phone is a lifeline. It helps me stay close to friends and family, even when we’re miles apart. It lets me snap photos of special moments, find my way with maps, or unwind with my favourite songs. This little device helps me feel connected to the world and the people I care about. Clearly, my phone stands among my three essential objects for building connection.

3. The Car: The Engine of Exploration

And then there’s my car. I used to own a classic MGB Mark II red convertible from the ’70s—just like the one in the picture. To me, a car is so much more than just a way to get from A to B. It’s about the freedom to go where I want, the excitement of spontaneous adventures, and being able to actually show up for the people and places that matter most. My car lets me turn those digital connections into real-life memories. For anyone seeking adventure and flexibility, a car is surely among their three essential objects.

Together, my Bible, my phone, and my car help me build a life that’s grounded in faith, rich in connection, and open to new experiences. In summary, these three essential objects provide the foundation for an authentic and meaningful life.
